About me
Willoughby Newcomb is a certified school counselor at Duplin Early College High School in North Carolina and the founder of Whole Journey Navigation LLC, a consulting practice focused on academic planning, career development, and postsecondary transitions. She holds a Master of Arts in Education in Professional School Counseling from the University of North Carolina Pembroke and is credentialed by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).Willoughby was named Duplin County Schools School Counselor of the Year and Support Staff of the Year for 2024–2025 in recognition of her commitment to student advocacy and systemic support. In Summer 2023, she co-presented at the RTI International Early College Network Summit on “Balancing Trauma While Empowering Student Success,” a session that highlighted practical, trauma-informed strategies for supporting students while maintaining high academic expectations. Her work has also been featured by College for North Carolina (CFNC) in an article on how interest assessments help students identify strengths and align them with meaningful career pathways. Willoughby’s work focuses on building student-centered systems and digital tools that help students stay organized, reflect on their growth, and navigate college and career pathways with confidence, particularly in early college settings.
